Uniform
At Liberty Primary School, we want our uniform to be simple, comfortable, affordable and practical, while encouraging children to feel proud of belonging to our school.
From September 2026, we introduced a more flexible approach to school uniform, allowing families to choose the option that works best for their child.
Our Flexible Uniform Approach
Children can choose to wear either formal school uniform or relaxed uniform/PE kit on any school day. There is no longer a requirement to wear formal uniform on particular days or PE kit only on designated PE days.
This flexibility supports our inclusive approach and the introduction of OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning), encouraging children to be active, creative and adventurous during playtimes.
Formal School Uniform
- Liberty blue sweatshirt or cardigan (school logo)
- White polo shirt (plain or school logo)
- Grey trousers, shorts, skirt or pinafore
- Blue checked or striped summer dress
- Black school shoes or suitable closed-toe sandals
Relaxed Uniform / PE Kit
- Plain white T-shirt or Liberty PE shirt
- Navy blue shorts or jogging bottoms
- Suitable trainers
Families can choose whichever option is most comfortable and practical for their child each day.
OPAL Play and Outdoor Clothing
As part of our OPAL approach, children are encouraged to enjoy outdoor play throughout the year, including activities that may involve mud, water and other natural materials.
We ask all children to bring a named pair of wellies to school, which can remain on site and be used during outdoor play.
We also encourage families to ensure children have suitable coats and clothing for the weather.
Children will not be discouraged from participating in outdoor play simply because their uniform becomes muddy or messy.
Special Occasions
There will be some occasions when children are expected to wear formal school uniform, such as school photograph days and certain special events.
We will always inform parents and carers in advance when formal uniform is required.
Purchasing School Uniform
We are committed to keeping uniform affordable. The only compulsory branded item is the Liberty sweatshirt or cardigan.
All other items can be purchased from supermarkets, high street shops or other retailers. Families are not required to purchase branded polo shirts or PE shirts.

Pre-loved Uniform
We encourage families to make use of pre-loved uniform wherever possible.
Second-hand uniform is made available through school arrangements, and families are welcome to donate clean uniform that their children have outgrown.
Please contact the school office at liberty@liberty.merton.sch.uk for information about pre-loved uniform availability.
Supporting every child
We recognise that children and families have different needs and circumstances. Our approach to uniform is inclusive and flexible, including where adjustments are needed for sensory needs, SEND, disability, religious or cultural requirements, or financial circumstances.
If you have any concerns about school uniform, please speak to a member of staff. We will always work with families to find a practical and supportive solution.
