Pupil Premium
At Liberty Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to belong, achieve and thrive, regardless of their background or circumstances.
Pupil Premium is additional government funding provided to schools to improve educational outcomes for disadvantaged pupils. It helps schools to identify and address barriers to learning, raise attainment and ensure that all children can access the opportunities available to them.
What is the Pupil Premium?
Pupil Premium funding is allocated to schools based on the number of eligible pupils, including:
- Children who are currently eligible for benefits-related Free School Meals, or who have been eligible at any point during the previous six years.
- Children who are currently looked after by a local authority.
- Children who have previously been looked after and have since been adopted or left care under certain legal arrangements.
Additional funding, known as Service Pupil Premium, is also available for eligible children from Armed Forces families.
For the 2026–27 financial year, the funding rates for primary-aged pupils are:

Funding for looked-after children is managed by the local authority's Virtual School Head, rather than paid directly to the school.
How do we use Pupil Premium at Liberty?
We use our Pupil Premium funding strategically to address the barriers that may prevent disadvantaged pupils from achieving their potential.
Our approach focuses on three key areas:
- High-quality teaching: Ensuring that all pupils benefit from effective, inclusive teaching and appropriate adaptations to meet their learning needs.
- Targeted academic support: Providing additional teaching, interventions and resources to help pupils develop essential knowledge and skills, particularly in reading, writing and mathematics.
- Wider support: Addressing barriers such as attendance, emotional wellbeing, communication and access to enrichment opportunities, so that children are ready and able to learn.
We recognise that disadvantaged pupils have a wide range of strengths, experiences and individual needs. Our approach is therefore informed by assessment, evidence and our knowledge of the children and families we serve.
Our Pupil Premium Strategy
Each year, we publish our Pupil Premium Strategy Statement, which sets out:
- The funding allocated to Liberty Primary School.
- The key challenges and barriers we have identified.
- How we plan to spend the funding to improve outcomes.
- How we evaluate the impact of our spending on disadvantaged pupils.
Our strategy is reviewed annually and forms part of our wider commitment to school improvement and inclusion.

Is my child eligible for Pupil premium?
Your child may qualify for Pupil Premium funding if your family meets the eligibility criteria for benefits-related Free School Meals.
All children attending state-funded primary schools in London currently receive free school meals through the Mayor of London's Universal Free School Meals programme. However, this does not automatically mean they are registered as eligible for Pupil Premium funding.
We strongly encourage families who may qualify to complete the eligibility check, even if their child already receives a free school meal.
Registering helps ensure that Liberty receives the additional funding available to support children's learning and development.
